I don't know about you but scrounging for quarters is always a pain in the ass be it for street parking or laundry. As for parking, I try to go where it's free if possible.
But I've been recently when doing laundry, instead of the spending extra $1-3 bucks every time you go to the laundromat or in-building dryer from 1-4 times a month, why not simply air dry it on your coat hangers? Or if you can use a clothing line, as we're in sunny LA anyways, all that much better.
It actually keeps your clothes lasting much longer and fresher; dryers beat up, shrink and de-fuzz/cloth your items, not to mention eat one sock almost always. It's also more environmentally friendly and you don't have to wait for one of the driers to free up. It also saves you the step of having to transfer your dry clothes to the hanger anyway, so it's quicker really - unless you need the item in a pinch but I'm talking regular laundry here. If you really need to spruce things up, iron your shirts & pants - which you probably would have to do anyway even if it were from a drier. Doing this will usually save between $50-150 a year on laundry for most people.
Of course there's times you should spend the extra bit on bigger/heavier items like blankets, towels, and so forth since those are space intensive and also take longer to dry. Likewise, dress clothes (suits, work shirts) which would require dry cleaning as they don't look right being thrown in the was are worth paying extra for in the long run. But for the most part, on weekly/biweekly/monthly laundry routines, this is an expense that you can do without...
Anyway it's a lot more fun to use quarters for drinking games at the bar.
